John Romero Vs Killcreek

One of the oldest Quake demos around but still cool to watch. Romero isn't a great Quake player (although he'll tell you different) but there's something about the way he plays that is fun to watch. Romero does a couple of things better than any player I've seen. 1) Jumping across to the grenade launcher while the platform is moving in the opposite direction and 2) Timing the walk across the moving floor. He also slows down on the steps so he doesn't make that "thud" sound every time. (something everybody should learn).

Lakerman Free For All

I don't think I've ever posted an FFA demo before but, I guess I'll have to make an exception on this one. This is Lakerman playing against 7 others at a recent Lan tourney in Sweden (which he won). The only reason I posted this is because I don't ever remember anybody getting 118 frags in a 15 minute match against decent players in a Lan tourney. Played on DM2, there are some nice frags throughout the match.

Lakerman Vs GreenGoblin

Did I mention that Lakerman was good on DM2? I lied, he's very good. His reactions are second to none. Lakerman is able to get from point A to point B as fast as any player I know of. It shows that Lakerman plays a lot of bots on this level as he uses the same type of player prediction. Having said that, it's the only drawback to this demo. His play is superb and there are lots of great frags along the way.

Lakerman Vs Ox

I rarely post demos that are played on modem but, this one deserves to be seen. Lakerman plays against Ox from Clan Cool. I've never seen Ox play before but, he doesn't seem too proficient at DM2. This will usually spell disaster against a DM2 expert like Lakerman. Some daring moves and many great frags in this one-sided match. A lot of these moves I've only seen done in practice let alone in a demo done on modem. Although there's no guessing who wins this match, it is truly an entertaining match to watch.

Xenon Vs Reload

Although this was from the TGI tourney, it was not an official match as Xenon had been disqualified earlier. Two very good players in this match including Reload, who is considered one of the best DM2 players in the world. This match is a "cat and mouse" type of game for most of the match until Reload gets a few frags near the end. Although this is played in DM mode 3, it has no bearing on the game because not enough rockets are shot. This is a very good game and it's played tentatively by both players. This is due to the respect for each others talent.

Z Vs Hemul (Cable POV)

Cable sent me this demo saying that I should post some Z demos. No problem, I'll post any good demo. The infamous Clan Z from Finland are one of the best and you can see it in this demo. Cable plays the lower RL area which can be tough if you don't have good aim and (more importantly) excellent communication with your team mates. Cable and Z have both of these. Cable gets a lot of easy spawn frags plus many of the hard to earn ones. A good solid game played by Z with some smart play and nice frags.

R3V Vs Nine (sCary POV)

2nd match of three played last July (about 1 month before the 9vsDR matches). Two tough clans who really know how to play. Revolution from the USA and clan Nine from Sweden. A very tense match, one of the few that sCary seems to be a bit nervous in. Both clans get off to a cautious start with very few frags for the first 5 minutes. Nine is then able to get lockdown on the level and lead by 22 frags at the 10 minute mark. After that, R3V goes on a tear and they're able to get a 12 frag lead by the 15 minute mark. It stays very close until the end of the match. Of note, R3V doesn't get more than a 1 frag lead til the 14 minute mark. A very well played match. Two very good Quake clans in this match. The SK guys seem to have worse connections (to their own server) than the boys from SC. Although "old" by today's standards, this demo is still one of the best I've seen. Great play by both of these Demonic Core team mates in this race to 15. Both Sujoy (from England) and Danold (from France) have loads of talent and it shows in this long, hard fought match. You can feel the intensity throughout the match and if not for a couple of mistakes by Sujoy and a great comeback by Danold, this match would've been over quickly.

Sujoy Vs Timber

Two DM4 experts in this exciting match which ends too early for my liking. This match is only 10 minutes long and needed to be longer. The key to Timber's play is that once he gets control of the level, he's VERY hard to stop. Sujoy manages to keep Timber down for more than half the match. You'll have to watch it to see who wins this close match.

More tactics, smart play and much more intense by both players. A good demo to watch

Timber Vs Lakerman (Match 3)

Well, here are two of the 1on1 greats playing on Dec. 26th, 1998. Timber from the UK and Lakerman from Sweden. Timber (at times) can be the best DM4 player around and Lakerman, although not his best level, is great on nearly any level. These 3 games are fast and furious all the way through with lots of nice frags. You can't let up on either of these players for even a few seconds because they are so talented and can comeback in a hurry. I won't bother giving the details of the matches except to say that both players play extremely well and you MUST download these demos. Note: These demos, although 1st person pov, were recorded through proxy. This means that the quality isn't great. Please use "rate 10000" when you watch them. They are also some of the smallest QW demos (in size) I've seen.

Final match from Fusion 98 1on1 Tourney. Wow! I don't know of any player in the world that could have beaten Timber in this match. Timber has complete domination from the first minute until the last seconds of this amazing demo. Nightwing is a very good player and won some tough matches to get to the finals. However, this was to be Timber's shining moment. Using all the tricks in the book (including a quad rocket jump) and playing like a man possessed, Timber destroys NightWing in devastating fashion.

Hoony Vs Methos

Broken mouse, no headset and a million more excuses. I'll let Ichor do this review.
Something of a grudge match this one, played between the webmasters of two of the world's best Quake sites. Every Australian should recognize Hoony from Challenge-AU, and Methos runs one of the world's best Quake demo and news sites over at Methos Quake. When these two players have such and intimate knowledge of Quake as these guys have, the result is absolutely stunning when they're thrown into a 1on1 deathmatch. Hoony has had to put his site on the backburner a bit due to a variety of reasons. Judging by his performance in the match, one of them is practicing Quake and practicing hard. He displays some great power-up timing and an uncanny ability to score a telefrag when needed. Methos on the other hand is something of a flair player, rocket jumping out of the LG pit. He is sneaky as well, catching Hoony in a number of ambushes during the game. Methos also proves to be a handful in a few melees and his ability is good enough to force a last second finish from Hoony. A close, action filled game. Review done by Ichor.

I like Mastah Killah. He's not scared to play against the best players in the world just to see how well he does. This match shows the difference between a very good player and a very good DM6 player. Against lesser players, you can get away with a few mistakes (especially on DM6), not so with MikeJ. Both are LPB but with MikeJ being from Canada and Mastah from Norway, we end up with two hpb's. MikeJ is always dangerous on DM6 and even with the lag, he's able to shaft Killah time and time again.
