| [Wednesday 9/30/98 - 2:00 am] Almost the end of the month. The hits were down from the outstanding month I had in August but still over 5,000 more than any previous month. Thanks again to all the people who visit so often. ----------Finally got the java content menu posted on the site. The damn thing better work. It makes it SO easy to navigate the site when using it. Any page is only one click away. ----------I can hardly wait for the mail to start coming in from the QMH page. I think I'll get mail from nearly every country in the world aside from England. I don't know why but I get a big chuckle out of what Paul2 has to say. I love his idea of real clan matches. All clan matches should be played in mode 4. All players start with 200 armor, 250 health and unlimited ammo. The difference is that once you die, you don't respawn, last clan left standing, wins. You could have best 2 out of 3. Great idea! ----------An early review of the QMH page came in from Spookie. His comment was "hrmm heh.. yeah, umm.. do you think he'll be back for another update? And will his next update contain even the tiniest bit of substance to it? LOL I forwarded these comments to Paul2 and you can probably guess what his reaction was. :p ---------- I noticed that the "ClanUK" site now has the list of possible players for the UK squad in the upcoming WDT. I don't think anybody will be too surprised to see that the squad is top heavy with QPD players. Being the top rated clan and having 2 QPD players choosing the squad is always a benefit. Don't take that as a bad comment, it will probably work to the UK's advantage in the long run as they know the other UK players very well.---------- Speaking of the UK squad, I seem to remember the original WDT rules stating that it would be a country competition where you could possibly have more than one clan from a country. Has anybody checked to see if it's within the rules to combine countries to make a squad like the UK is doing? By combining the countries, it's kind of like the team from Norway saying, we'll get Sniket or Lakerman to play for us. If anybody knows this information, I'd be interested in hearing the reasoning behind this.---------- Lyric O' the Day: (name that tune)"Got an angel on the stairs. As if you'd even care, when the lights are up and the sun had never gone, down. Did you see him on the street? Did you pass him at your feet? Did you think at all, how dare he even look me in the eye?" Previous LOD was "Unforgiven" by the USA band "Metalica" (lots of people mailed me with the correct answer) |
| [Sunday 9/27/98 - 11:00 pm] Hmm, what is it with gaming companies releasing so many version of products before they get it right? Some of the companies still don't have it right. Here's what I mean.
Can't these companies get it right before the game is released? You never see a Nintendo or Playstation game having to be upgraded. Okay, these are single platform games, here's a better example. How about LucasArts and Access Software games? Links 386 Pro was bleeding edge stuff when it was released and only had a few updates for the vesa driver. The game itself stayed the same. All the action games by LucasArts rarely have more than 1 update. As much as I want to see these games as soon as possible, I wish the gaming companies would hold onto them for a while and just release a final product that doesn't require bug fixes. Updates and additions are fine. ----------Speaking of updates, is it just me or is anybody else annoyed that gaming companies require you to download the latest version of GameSpy before you can update and use their games? Both the latest Unreal update and the last QW update required you to have the newest Gamespy to connect to a server properly using Gamespy. Don't get me started on those damn splash screens with some message telling me to register Gamespy. :) ----------I'm waiting for the final copy of the first QMH entry so that I can post it. I've sent mail to the writer but, no response yet. ----------Baseball player Mark McGwire finished his season today with a total of 70 homeruns for the season. That breaks the previous record of 61 which was set 37 years ago. As always, McGwire was a classy player all the way through it. ---------- Lyric O' the Day: (name that tune)"They dedicate their lives, to running out of his. He tries to please them all, this bitter man he is. Throughout his life of pain, he's battled constantly, this fight he can not win. A tired man they say no longer cares." | [Thursday 9/24/98 - 11:00 pm] I must have been drunk when I did my last update. I made 3 errors in the last posting. The errors were, 1) I posted the DM3 JUMPS demo on the demo page and then didn't link it to the proper file (dork), 2) I put in a couple of wrong words in the "Lyric O' The Day". umm and 3) I said that Lucifa sent the mail about the court transcripts. Lucifa's name is Paul and it was another Paul that sent it. All errors have now been fixed. Go and download the DM3 Jumps demo, there are a couple of handy jumps in there. ---------- Thanks to all the people who have responded with opinions to the new Java contents menu. Your help was greatly appreciated. To the one person that had a real problem with it other than the fact it didn't look as good as expected, I'll contact you soon. Also, thanks to all the people that replied to my requests about the WDT (nobody!) ---------- I spoke to Hoony again today and he told me... THWAP! ... oh, sorry, I'm not suppose to tell you what he told me. (damn, that hurts) :p ---------- I went out for dinner with my buddy Brad yesterday. Brad is an intranet / network expert and knows everything there is to know about Java, ActiveX and every operating system ever made. He told me he was going to take a look at my site and see what he can do to "spruce it up" for me. ---------- Not sure when it happened but it turns out that I suck at Quake. A few weeks ago, I played on-line for the first time in a few months and it was terrible. I played in an FFA game with a few decent players (Spookie from XP, RJ from R3V and Jezebel from LQM) but even though I had a really bad ping of around 300-400, I just wasn't happy with the way I played. I've been playing too much Lan play and my aim was waaaaayyyy off. I finished 3rd or 4th in the couple of matches I played but I think the players under me were all using their keyboards. :) That sucks. ---------- Just when you thought the Quake world was safe for a while, this kinda stuff happens. I got an e-mail from [TC] Ethereal (love that name) and he mentioned the following.
WTF? I went over to check it out and he was right (bastard!). DR is now playing in the OGL Q2 tourney. While I was there, I also noticed that Xtreme Prejudice was in there too. Spookie? What's going on here? Why is your clan playing Q2? Ethereal also mentioned this at the bottom of the message...
Umm, don't get me started Pal or I'll take my proper speed RL and blow you away. :) ---------- Saw an e-mail where Emrys was explaining to his friend why he plays Quake instead of Nintendo like his friend does. He said the following.
Hmm, I'm not sure if that makes me want to laugh or cry. ---------- Lyric O' the Day: (name that tune)

| [Wednesday 9/23/98 - 2:00 am] I've been talking with Lemurboy from Clan Nine (C9) recently. For those that don't know who Clan Nine is (the original one), they are a USA clan and the longest running clan that I can personally remember. Certainly longer than the Swedish QW clan of the same name. They also run the Kitty Quake servers and have been doing that longer than any other Quake servers in the world. (as far as I know) Lemur and I were discussing the old days on the C9 Mothership servers (known as Kitty). Some of the other C9 guys are still around like Ahnuld, Eeevil and of course Xris. Xris was listed as best FFA player on my Quakes best players list for a long time and I took him off because he had stopped playing Quake for a while. Another thing the C9 guys were known for was the creation of the Stooge bot. As Lemur says, "This was of course back before "bots" were a bad word". We also talked in length about all the great players that have played on the Kitty servers. Every great American player has played there at one time or another and it was "home" to most of the greats. People like Thresh, Gollum, Reptile, Dru, Unholy, Littledragon, Jarlaxle (huh?), Whitewolf, MikeJ and many, many more. Thanks for the memory rush, Joel. ---------- I must be getting old. I'm starting to talk like a guy stuck in the 60's when I start reminiscing about the "old days" of Quake. Bah, who cares, it was lots more fun back then. Now were all hardened veterans and have been jaded by the Quake blood coursing through our veins. ---------- Received an e-mail from Turkey the other day. The person who sent it seemed like a very nice guy until I got to the end of the mail. He finished his mail with "love your demo section but get rid of some of the old (slow) demos by people like Sujoy and Timber". Hey! Them's fightin words pal! :-) ---------- Saw this in the UK Quake mailing list. It made me laugh. It's a snippet from an actual court transcript.
---------- I removed the demo of Unholy & Thresh vs Nikodemus & Paralyzer at the request of the [9] guys. Not that the request bothered me but it was strange to get it after 1 1/2 months of it being on the site. ---------- I'll probably start using the Java menu on October 1st. That's the same time the "Quake Mental Hospital" page will open. This of course depends on whether the owner of the page sends me the update. Damn, I hope I don't have another Spookie on my hands. One is more than I can handle. :-) ---------- Lyric O' the Day: (name that tune)

| [Monday 9/21/98 - 2:00 am] OMG, like, I just spent the entire weekend like doing cool stuff with my 12 year old daughter. Like, it was like, really cool going shopping for like 4 hours at the busiest mall in the city. Like, omg, I've never seen so many people in like ages. Then like, out for eats and like a movie and like lots of other like, really cool stuff. (sigh) ---------- Is it my imagination or is the Quake world just plain boring from a news point of view lately? I check all the sites and there's very little of anything interesting happening. I'm actually starting to like the video driver updates on Blues these days. LOL, Not! ---------- I had a dream last night. No, not the one with a thousand naked women throwing pickles at me. This one actually had me playing Quake against Bill Clinton. Of course, I kicked his ass. It's the first time I've ever dreamt about Quake, I wonder what that means? ---------- I guess people shouldn't take me so literally. I had an e-mail today from a guy asking me. "Since having an advantage over your opponent is cheating, does that mean that being an lpb or having a super fast computer is cheating?". Now people, we all know that all lpb's are cheating bastards but let's not get carried away with all this. :p ---------- Lyric O' the Day: (name that tune) Previous LOD was "Spanish Train" by the Canadian artist (ex UK) "Chris de Burgh" |
| [Thursday 9/17/98 - 10:00 pm] Virus anybody? I was downloading my mail yesterday morning and while downloading the mail from the UKQuake mailing list, my Norton Anti-Virus popped up and said, "This message contains a virus. What would you like to do?". It gave me the usual choices and instead of hitting the "details" button, I just clicked on "delete message" button. It would've been nice if I would've thought enough to click the details button so I could find out what the virus was and who sent it. Anyway, for everybody else that gets the UKQuake mailing list. Check your system because whatever the virus is, you probably have it too. ---------- Do I miss Hoony? Yes and no. I miss talking with him as a friend but I don't miss his posting. This may sound a bit weird but it's not what you think. I want Hoony to be able to relax and do what he wants. A rested Hoony who posts something once a week for a long time is better than a burnt out Hoony that doesn't post at all. Hoony, take all the time you need to get yourself rested before you come back. If you're not happy when you're posting, it will seem like a chore. When you're excited about it, words flow into the keyboard very easily. Keep in touch, bud. ---------- From the files of "only in the USA" and "truth is stranger than fiction". Check out this story I found.
Things like this make me shake my head in amazement. ---------- Umm, let me clarify. When I ask for some demos. Don't send me a url and say "this has tons of demos, take a look". I don't have the time or patience to download 100 demos to find a diamond in the rough. I do have a couple of demos to upload to the site. I'll post them this weekend. Oh and to that one person who said, try my personal demo directory, you shouldn't give people access to the "warez" directory. It could get you in trouble. :-) ---------- Lyric O' the Day: (name that tune) railway man lay dying with his people by his side. His family were crying, knelt in prayer before he died. But, above his head, waiting for the dead, was the devil with a twinkle in his eyes. "Well God's not around and look what I've found, this ones mine!". | [Sunday 9/13/98 - 5:00 pm] It was mom's birthday yesterday so I had supper here with my mom and my sister. I even got to play a few lan Quake games with my sister. We played 3 matches and I won each one but, it's been about 6 months since I had played her and I forgot just how good her aim was. I actually started making demos but I forgot I was making them. When I loaded up for the 4th game, which we never played, it was still recording with the same filename. So, I have a nice 10 minute demo of me just standing on dm4. LOL (dork) My sister is now in her 5th year of university and doesn't have time for games like Quake (wtf?) but it was still fun to play against her after all this time. Bottom line is that big brother can still kick her ass. :) ---------- Hummers! I thought that everybody knew what a Hummer was but, apparently I was wrong. A Hummer is an ultra expensive and luxurious 4x4 made by Lamborghini. Oh, it's also ugly but, wow, the ride and style are incredible.
Just to give you an example of the size, this one is about 6' tall and is almost the width of a semi-trailer Mack Truck. You can have the model shown above for approx $90,000 U.S. ---------- sCary mentioned he will be directing his site back towards the roots that made his site popular to begin with. Umm, I don't know about you but, I personally haven't noticed any difference. Have you? ---------- I need your help with the next Quake Babe. I need people to send me some pics with a brief bit of information about clan, age etc.. ---------- Speaking of age, I have another concern. I was sent a picture for the next Quake Babe but I have a problem with it. Although the girl in the picture is a) pretty, b) in a clan and c) fully clothed, there's another problem. The girl in question is only 16 years old. I don't want to get into any type of "exploitation" situation or bother anybody by posting it. Should I be able to post this picture or not? I'll let you guys decide. Umm, sCary doesn't get a vote because we all know how young, pretty girls affect him. Rumor has it that sCary seriously considered changing his name to "Woody". | [Saturday 9/12/98 - 1:30 am] - Happy Birthday
Mom I was a bit surprised at the responses I received for my last .plan update. I received tons of e-mail regarding the sexual content. It even got a mention on Challenge.AU. Sorry, I was just doing my best to keep up with that Bill Clinton guy. :) The lack of comments on other things I spoke about raised my eye brows a bit. For example, nobody mentioned anything about the following things.
Now, do people really think that sex is more important than these things? Geez, what the hell am I saying! Disregard everything written above. :p ---------- I watched that 20 meg .avi file that was on sCary's site yesterday. It was funny as hell. Great graphics, great story line and even a bit of animated sex. If you want to download it, you can get it at the following address. Go to www.shugashack.com and download it. Make sure you get it, it's hilarious. ---------- Lyric O' the Day: (name that tune)

| [Wednesday 9/09/98 - 7:00 am] Sorry about the timing of this update. I had a busy (but good) day today and didn't get in until 4 a.m. ---------- A Day In The Life Of Methos: My day started out a bit rough as I woke up late after 4 hours of sleep. I let my dog (Tuffy) out in my backyard and went to take a shower. While taking my shower, I heard a noise as if somebody was opening the bathroom door. I looked over the glass shower doors to see my gorgeous blond neighbor standing there (Yikes!). She made sure my day got off to a good start. :) She told me she had some errands to run and asked me if she could borrow my car and that she would drive me to work and then pick me up later. Another neighbor of mine, who is an executive with a local radio station, works in the same office tower that I work in. I called him to see if I could catch a ride with him so that my lady neighbor didn't have to drive me there. He said "sure, but I have the company vehicle with me if you don't mind driving in that". I said that I didn't care what kind of car it was. Little did I know that I would be driving to work in a Hummer. How cool is that! Work was all pressure today, deadlines are a bugger. I went for a business lunch with some of the management weasels at work. Oh, a business lunch is going to eat at a really expensive place that sells the same crap as cheap restaurants and you have to tip more. Went back to work, made my presentation, gave shit to all the managers for their workers performance (that was lots of fun). Got picked up (literally) after work by my gorgeous blond neighbor. Had white knuckles all the way home from her umm "quick" driving style. Got home, dumped the suit, went out for a Mexican supper with the neighbor. Bought the movie "Titanic" for my mother who was too lazy to pick it up herself. Dropped the movie off at Mom's place and went home. I watched a bit of TV and then spent 6 hours at my "gorgeous blond neighbor's" house. I don't think I'll go into all the details about that, it's just boring X-rated stuff. :) Hmm, aren't you glad you read all that? ---------- I mentioned in my last .plan update about a baseball player named Mark McGwire who was chasing history by trying to get the most homeruns in one season. Well, today history was caught. by Mark McGwire when he hit his 62nd homerun in a shower of camera flashes (estimated at 19,000 camera flashes, umm, who counts this stuff?) to break the 37 year old record held by Roger Maris. Now, I'm not a huge baseball fan but I do like "class acts". Mark McGwire is possibly the classiest sports star I have ever seen. When he broke the age old record, it was a surrealistic moment in time. When you see the opposing team all stand up and applaud this heroic feat, it is a site to behold. Baseball has always had a "romantic" history full of nostalgia and great memories. After seeing history being made in such amazing fashion, I will probably remember this day in baseball for the rest of my life. The homerun was the shortest homerun he has hit this season but may turn out to be the biggest of all time. If you want to see more about this moment in time, go to cnn.com or espn.com. They will have all the info on this amazing man. ---------- Oh yeah, Quake stuff ) ---------- I saw on Challenge.AU that SK-Metzgerr sent an e-mail saying that all the hacks he's done to his Quake models isn't really cheating and that since almost everybody else does it, it's okay to do.
I've got news for you pal, it's cheating. Many people have mentioned lots of people from Germany using every hack in the book (except maybe aimbots). Just because these cheats are used by 75% of the people you know, it certainly doesn't make it right. It sucks big time, don't do it. ---------- Before I forget. I want to wish a fond farewell to Adze. A long time member of clan QPD in the UK and a really nice guy. For those that don't remember, I met Adze the same night as I met Ettu and he was there during that infamous Ettu / Hellrot / Sequential spawns night. He also ran the very popular Crystal duel Quake servers in the UK for a long time. Anyway, Adam is leaving Oxford University in England to attend music school (he plays the Cello). Adam, I wish you the best of luck. Find a computer with ICQ and keep in touch with all your friends. Good luck at school and we'll miss you on IRC and your classy manner as a member of QPD. ---------- Lyric O' the Day: (name that tune)

| [Monday 9/07/98 - 1:30 am] Hmm, hard day at work today. I didn't want to be there. There was tons of great sports on the tube that I wanted to see including Mark McGuire going for the Baseball home run record for a single season. For those of you that aren't in close promote to the USA, Mark McGwire tied Babe Ruth's total of 60 home runs yesterday and needs one more to tie Roger Maris for the record. Whenever he gets up to bat, the whole sports world seems to stop and watch. This was also the first week of NFL football (American) plus lots of car racing & US Open Tennis. Speaking of Tennis, how is it that Monica Seles can play lots of Tennis every week in 100+ temperatures and still be overweight? hmmm ---------- I received lots of mail lately. Most of it involved 3 topics. Cheating in QW, the font sizes on the site (these fonts are driving me nuts) and my postings on this page. (children, don't read this)
---------- Congrats to Hoony on the great job he and the gang did at the Aussie Lan tourney. Great job Richard. ---------- Read Spookie's update. It's hilarious. I love his idea for the non-weapons in Q3. They'll have to have a bind that yells "Banzai!" for that. ---------- Lyric O' The Day: (name that tune) Bonus, tell me the song, the artist and what book (and movie) Stephen King wrote after hearing this song.

| [Friday 9/04/98 - 7:00 pm] I visited the ClanScene site which is run by Heksen. It's a nice site, take a look when you get the chance. ---------- Speaking of ClanScene, I received an e-mail from Heksen and among other things, he said he liked my demo section but there were too many 1on1 demos and not enough clan demos. Strange hearing this from a guy who runs a site called "ClanScene". :) ---------- I uploaded 2 demos to the Quake Demos page today. Both were clan matches with Clan Z. One against [9] from Xenon's POV and the other against SK from Therion's POV. The one against [9] was a decent demo with some very nice play, the one against SK was umm less than great. Played in DM mode 3 and on DM6, it was just like an ffa game with lots of ugly frags. Grab a weapon, shoot all you can until you die a few seconds later from somebody else doing the same thing. Repeat this for 20 minutes. ---------- Yesterday was Thursday and I headed out to the bar again with lots of people from work. Unlike the last few times, I was completely unsuccessful with any women. Hmm, maybe I wore the wrong cologne. It was one of those nights where even though I had a great time, nothing seemed to go right. I spoke with a very pretty woman named Susan for about an hour and then found out she was a lesbian. Then I had some guy half my size tell me that he was going to break my legs if I touched his wife again. I asked him who his wife was and he pointed to some girl I've never spoken with before and wouldn't touch if I had the chance. I thought about taking it a bit further but then just told him not to worry. :) All in all, I did have a nice time, came home and went to bed. (alone :) The good news is that I was woken up this morning by my gorgeous next door neighbor. (vavoom) ---------- I really hate hearing bad news like the passing of John Cash's mother. It really sucks. I hope John is doing okay through this ordeal. Things like that are hard to overcome. As I mentioned before, my condolences to John and his family. ---------- Any comments on the font size on the news page? When I see it, it looks HUGE. I've only had one e-mail on this saying it looked much better. Does anybody else find the fonts too small or too large? ---------- Has anybody noticed how quiet irc is these days? If you go to a channel after midnight, there aren't very many people there. Why is this? Is it because people don't like irc anymore? Is it because they've found better channels to go to? Nope, it's because of the fact that it's September and that means all the kiddies are back in school. Remember to bring your lunch and wear clean underwear in case you get into an accident. :) ---------- Wtf? Just as an example of the quality of the mail I receive everyday. Check this one out. This mail is complete and un-edited.
Wtf is this person talking about? I don't want to put anybody down but, please, speak English. ---------- Lyric O' the Day: (name that tune)

| [Wednesday 9/02/98 - 1:00 am] Had an old girlfriend call me this evening from Halifax (about 2,500 miles away). She told me that she had visited my site for the first time yesterday. I asked her what she thought of it. Not being a Quake player and thinking nearly all games are too violent and evil, I expected to hear something like that. Her reply was, "So, who are all the Quake Babes on your site? Do you talk to them all the time?" Umm, what exactly do you say to that? :) ---------- Speaking of Halifax, as I write this, SwissAir Flight 111 has crashed in the Atlantic ocean approx. 30 miles south of Halifax. There were 228 people onboard and as of this moment, they can not confirm any survivors. My best hopes go out to these people and I hope there are survivors and the casualties are kept to a minimum. ---------- I watched 3 very old demos today.
I had an e-mail today that asked why Quake sites don't talk more about Clan Z. This is a good question as they are certainly one of the best clans around. I suppose it's the same reason we don't hear much about some of the better clans in the USA. We hear about U|4, DR & R3V but not many more. Having said that, how much do we hear about any clans other than the top clans in certain countries. I suppose Clan Z is over-shadowed by their neighbors in Clan 9. Clan Z is a VERY good clan and I guess I'm one of the guilty ones for not keeping up with Perkele and the boys in Finland. ---------- Spoke to Malby who runs the Quake.au site. Nice guy, go and visit his site when you get a chance. ---------- I received lots of mail from people telling me what they like to see when they visit a quake site. All good suggestions. Keep them coming in so I can get a really good idea of what people want to see. ---------- I changed the font on the news page. Whenever I viewed the site from home or work, the fonts always looked huge. However, I get mail nearly everyday saying how small the font is and that people have to squint to read it. I've changed the default to the standard Arial font, medium size. Please let me know what you think of it. Is it too big? Too small? (the font that is :) E-mail me and let me know. ---------- Lyric o' the day: (name that tune)
